Personer, der har aphantasia (p\u00e5 dansk ogs\u00e5 kaldet afantasi) mangler evnen til bevidst at danne mentale billeder. De mangler det \u201dindre \u00f8je\u201d, som de fleste mennesker i et eller andet omfang har. De er s\u00e5ledes ikke i stand til at forestille sig noget i visuel forstand; alts\u00e5 helt bogstaveligt at se det for sig.<\/p>\n

F\u00e6nomenet er f\u00f8rste gang beskrevet af Sir Francis Galton i 1880, herefter har det v\u00e6ret forholdsvis uudforsket og ubeskrevet, indtil det \u201dgenopdages\u201d af professor Adam Zeman, der i sin unders\u00f8gelse fra 2015 giver det navnet aphantasia.<\/p>\n

Evnen til at visualisere er forskellig fra person til person. I den ene ende af spektret ligger aphantasia (ingen visualisering) og i den anden ende hyperphantasia hvor visualiseringen er klar og tydelig som i virkeligheden.<\/p>\n

Forskere p\u00e5 omr\u00e5det vurderer at ca.1-3% af befolkningen lever med aphantasia. (Der er lidt variation i den procentsats, der angives i de forskellige kilder.)<\/p>\n

P\u00e5virkning af \u00f8vrige sanser<\/strong>
De \u00f8vrige mentale sanser vil ofte ogs\u00e5 v\u00e6re ramt. Evnen til at forestille sig lyd (tale, sang, musik,\u2026) og rent faktisk h\u00f8re det. Evnen til at fremkalde lugt og smag ved tankens kraft, samt f\u00f8le ber\u00f8ring, kulde, varme osv. blot ved at t\u00e6nke p\u00e5 det. Det er dog ikke lykkedes mig at finde oplysninger om, hvor udbredt det generelt er at kunne g\u00f8re brug af disse mentale sanser.<\/p>\n
